Interesting history of the Wenger brand
Wenger began in 1883, when the brand was contracted to supply knives to the Swiss Army. At that time it was called Paul Boechat & Co. After a few years there was a change in the brand's name, which was due to a change in its director. In 1908 it was taken over by Thedor Wenger, once one of the company's executives, who now became its president. From its inception, Wenger had a major contender for both the army contract and watch production. Victorinox, was a sizable competitor because it had a similar profile to Wenger. In 2005, the fates of the competing brands became intertwined when Wenger became part of the Victorinox group. However, this did not change the level of its business. Wenger watches are still produced under its own brand, which belongs to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FHS).
