The beginning of the Sternglas brand dates back to 2016, although the brand founder's adventure with watches began much earlier. Dustin Fontaine, as he is referred to, started working at a small watchmaker's workshop in Münster at the age of 16. He helped change straps, put goods on shelves or prepare packaging. Thus began his passion for classic watches.
The idea and history of Sternglas watches
Even as a 21-year-old student, Fontaine could not afford to buy a good, quality watch. An analysis of the market indicated that beautiful, precise models were far beyond his financial reach. That's how the idea was born - to create his own minimalist Bauhaus-style watch with good quality and a fair price. Fortunately, the man did not let himself be discouraged by all those who said that the market was already oversaturated. For months he worked late into the night on designs, which was not made easier by the perfectionism that slowed everything down. When a very well-known brand disregarded his ideas, he felt his dreams were destroyed and abandoned the idea of his own brand.
However, this story has a happy ending. During his studies, Fontaine started working as a web designer. However, this work did not give him complete fulfillment, and his thoughts kept returning to the projects he had created before. In 2016, he thought: it's now or never! And he brought the Sternglas brand into existence. He involved all his family, friends and thanks to crowdfunding he could finally realize his dream.
Sternglas watch collections
The brand offers both quartz and automatic models. They come within series of several watches each, and what characterizes all of them regardless of the collection is simplicity and a subdued color palette. The Asthet line is a typical minimalism - simple dials with linear indexes, a small date, black, white and blue. In Hamburg watches, there is a little more going on on the dials - you will find scales: 12-hour and 60-minute, as well as a day-of-the-month date pad.
With women in mind, the Naos XS series was created, whose distinguishing feature is the beautiful colors. There is a version in a dim sage green shade, a terracotta-colored model and an ice blue watch. In addition, variants in classic gold and silver. The Berlin collection, on the other hand, is a metropolitan style. Linear indexes here are broken by Arabic hour markers at 12:00 and 6:00 a.m. A Day Date timepiece is placed at 3 o'clock.
