The Certina Urban DS-1 Big Date men's watch C029.426.16.041.00 will appeal to gentlemen who appreciate high quality workmanship and classic design. Made of brown leather, the strap is paired with a round envelope, for which silver stainless steel was used. The navy blue sunburst dial is covered by a hard, convex sapphire glass with anti-reflector. On the surface of the dial you will find the date of the days of the month with a practical magnifying glass. Accurate operation of the whole is ensured by the Powermatic 80.651 automatic movement, which has a power reserve of up to 80 hours. It is equipped with the DS double security system and the Nivachron™ anti-magnetic spring. Its work can be admired through the transparent caseback. 100 meters of water resistance protects the case interior during surface swimming. The product comes with a 2-year warranty.
Functions
Steel
The 316L stainless steel, which Certina uses for cases, bracelets and clasps for instance, is extremely resistant, corrosion-resistant and hygienic. It contains only a very small proportion of nickel, which is not emitted when worn and therefore does not trigger any nickel allergies.
Sapphire
Sapphire watch crystal is made of aluminium oxide powder (Al2O3) heated to over 2000°C. The resultant sapphire nugget is cut with great precision into fine slices, trimmed and polished. Sapphire is extremely scratch-resistant, shock-resistant and is very transparent. This is why sapphire crystal is an essential element in the DS Concept.
Leather
Leather is extremely strong, breathable and hard-wearing. The process of manufacturing a leather strap comprises a large number of steps, such as treatment with plant-based tanning agents. Certina uses calf leather only and no exotic types of leather – the straps are therefore not subject to CITES regulations. The pattern on some Certina straps, such as the crocodile print, is created using a careful embossing process. Certina leather straps are lined with an anti-allergenic synthetic material to provide added comfort when worn and to minimise skin sensitivity.
Nivachron™
An innovative new titanium-based alloy that is used for balance springs. This revolutionary material was developed in collaboration with the Swatch Group and is used in selected brands. Nivachron™ springs are highly resistant to magnetic fields, shock, ageing and temperature fluctuations, lending them extremely high mechanical precision and making them remarkably reliable in everyday use.

Since 1959, the DS Concept has reflected Certina's uncompromising standards. Anti-reflective coating
It is possible to enhance the quality of a sapphire crystal to an even greater extent by providing it with an anti-reflective coating on one or both sides. The Certina brand is becoming increasingly focussed on equipping its timepieces with an extremely high-quality anti-reflective coating on both sides, whereby several layers of this coating on both sides of the crystal ensure that it is possible to see through the timepieces in an optimum manner.
