Is there a justification for wearing a watch on the right hand? Contrary to appearances, the choice of hand on which to wear a watch can depend on a number of factors, such as left-handedness, personal preference and even etiquette. In this article, we take a look at why people make this choice and what the significance of this decision may be for them.
As it turns out, the basic principles that should guide the choice of the hand on which to wear the watch are comfort and care. It has therefore become accepted that a watch should be worn on the hand that we use less frequently on a daily basis. Most people are right-handed, so they usually wear the watch on their left hand. This ensures that the watch does not interfere with daily activities. Similarly, and produce watches with the crown on the left hand with them in mind. An additional, previously mentioned issue is to ensure that the watch does not get damaged. Wearing it on the hand we use more often exposes the strap to abrasion, the bracelet and glass to scratches.
The main difference between right-handed and left-handed watches is where the crown, the small dial for setting the time, is located. In right-handed watches, the crown is usually on the right-hand side, allowing the time to be easily adjusted with the right hand. For left-handers, the crown is moved to the left side so they can use it more comfortably. This small change makes a big difference in everyday use and shows that watch manufacturers are thinking about the comfort of all users. In addition to the position of the crown, some models of left-handed watches may have other small modifications, such as specially designed straps or an inverted dial layout, to make them even more functional and comfortable to wear.
There is also an unwritten rule of good manners that states that if you have an expensive, exclusive watch model, it is not even appropriate to wear it on your right hand. Expensive men's watches are often large, distinctive. Wearing a luxury model on the hand that you greet each other with and carry out your daily activities can be seen as a gaffe and flaunting your wealth. Wearing a watch on the left hand can also have aesthetic qualities, especially for married people. Usually, wedding rings are worn on the right hand, so to keep the proportions in the jewellery, the watch is better worn on the left hand, which looks more favourable.
