The Venezianico brand has unveiled another spectacular model from the Redentore series. This watch was inspired by the "Osella" coin from Piazza San Marco. Its history dates back 360 years to the reign of the 107th Venetian doge. Let's find out how Venezianico's latest design looks visually and technically.
The 107th Venetian doge in question was Marcantonio Giustinian, who reigned from 1684 to 1688. He became famous for his firm management of the plague epidemic, advocating health measures and quarantine. He was also a patron of the arts, contributing to the cultural heritage of Venice. The unique dial of the Venezianico Redentore Historia Temporis 1221520 watch draws inspiration from the aforementioned 'Osella' coin minted during the years of Doha's reign. The name refers to the dialectical term for female ducks, famous for their delicate flavour and part of the traditional annual gift offered by the Doña of Venice. In later times, when obtaining wild game became difficult, 'Osella' coins were minted to preserve the original meaning of the gesture.
The Venezianico brand undoubtedly spared no effort to create the unique design of an exceptional timepiece. To make the dial, an 18th-century coin was digitised, transferring its shape to a hardened-steel die, which allowed brass blanks to be obtained using the mint technique. Mineral oils were then applied to create an ageing effect. This complex craftsmanship process mimics the ageing of antique coins, giving the watch a satisfying and captivating appearance. In order not to interfere with the image seen on the dial/coin, the use of indexes has been abandoned. Instead, the dial is protected by sapphire glass with anti-reflection.
The strap of the Venezianico Redentore Historia Temporis 1221520 watch represents the unbreakable bond between past and present. It is made from antique leather, which undergoes an artisanal restoration process during which natural additives are used to restore its softness, while preserving the wrinkling and imperfections accumulated on the leather.
An exceptional amount of interesting detailing has been included on the screw-down caseback of the Venezianico Redentore Historia Temporis 1221520 watch, with the inscription Redentore Historia Temporis at the very top, which pays homage to Venetian coinage. The details visible on the dial/monet are described below, which are the Guardian Angel of the Venetian Republic, the heart of the city, namely St Mark's Square, and the Galera, the iconic ship of the Venetians. In the Redentore line watch, as usual, there are references to the Basilica Del Redentore. This time it is the shape of the envelope that alludes to the rounded vault of this temple. The model is water resistant to 10 ATM. It owes the precision of its operation to the Japanese Seiko NH35A automatic movement bearing 24 jewels with a 41-hour power reserve. Also available is the Venezianico Redentore Historia Temporis SET 1221520-SET variant, which comes with an additional bracelet.
