Join us for a unique journey back in time.... This year, the Wolf brand celebrates its 190th anniversary. We would like to celebrate this extraordinary event by sharing with you the story full of passion, innovation and unwavering quality that has defined this remarkable company for generations. Over nearly two centuries, Wolf has not only survived numerous changes, but also difficult downfalls. Join us to discover how five generations of the Wolf family have transformed an initial vision into a global brand, inspiring lovers of elegance and precision around the world.

The beginnings in Hanau (1834)

The year 1834 in Hanau, Germany, marks the beginning of the Wolf brand's remarkable history. It was then that Philip Wolf, a talented goldsmith, noticed that his boxes were more popular than the jewellery he was making. This led to a ground-breaking decision - instead of continuing down the traditional path of goldsmithing, Philip decided to focus on making boxes. It was a choice that not only changed the course of his own career, but also sparked the development of the entire company, which continues to this day.

In 1905, his son, Philip Wolf II, took another bold step that was to significantly influence the future of the brand. He moved to Sweden. This country, with its rich traditions of craftsmanship and appetite for modern design, became the new home for the Wolf brand, enabling it to further expand its horizons and explore new possibilities.

The origins of the Wolf brand

Ida Wilhelmina - strength in the face of tragedy

The history of Wolf would be incomplete without mentioning Ida Wilhelmina, a character whose strength and determination in the face of tragedy have made their mark on the brand's history. After the deaths of two of her five children and her husband, Philip Wolf II, Ida faced an enormous challenge. At a time when the business world was almost entirely dominated by men, her decision to take control of the company was not only courageous, but also groundbreaking.

The difficulties Ida faced were not only personal but also professional. She had to lead the company through turbulent times, including periods of global conflict and economic uncertainty. Her steadfastness, her ability to manage in crisis and her exceptional business intuition allowed the company not only to survive, but to continue to grow.

Putting difficult times behind her, Ida Wilhelmina used her strength and determination to further strengthen the Wolf brand. Her ability to lead the company at a time when many others would have given up is testament to her remarkable attitude and impact on the company's legacy. Ida's taking the helm at such a difficult time has not only brought stability to the company, but also strengthened its position in the market, proving that it is not only innovation and quality, but also unwavering strength of character that is behind the brand's success.

Innovation and expansion (1936-1986)

The years 1936-1986 were a key period for Wolf, marked by the innovations introduced by Philip Wolf III. His contributions included the invention of the distinctive hinge and the iconic music box featuring a dancing ballerina. These products not only resonated with the industry, but also became symbols of the brand's creativity and excellence.

The casket with the ballerina brought the company worldwide fame. The innovative box hinge, on the other hand, revolutionised the way users stored their valuables, raising quality standards.

During this time, Wolf also expanded its reach, introducing new products and entering new markets. Philip Wolf III's actions had a huge impact on the company's development, consolidating its position as a leader in watch accessories and building on the brand's global heritage.

An era of modernity and sustainability (1986 - to date)

These days, Wolf, under the leadership of Simon Wolf, is adapting to a changing world and the challenges that modernity brings. This became particularly important in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, which required not only a rapid response but also a long-term survival and development strategy.

Simon Wolf focused on adapting the company to new realities, which included both optimising costs and introducing remote working models to ensure business continuity. A key element of the strategy, however, is sustainability, with Wolf increasingly focusing on green solutions and practices that minimise the company's impact on the environment. This reflects growing environmental awareness and changing consumer expectations.

Equally important to the company is maintaining strong relationships with retail partners around the world. Simon Wolf understands that trust and collaboration are the foundation for stability and growth in uncertain times. As a result, even in the face of global challenges, Wolf maintains its position in the market with high-quality products.
