Originally the Certina brand didn’t have the distinctive turtle shell in its logo. The company was founded in 1888 in Switzerland, a country renowned for the finest watches in the world. The manufacturer made it clear from the start that it wanted to meet the three strict criteria, namely Swiss quality, tradition and reliability. At the beginning, the company was known under a different name. The brand changed its name to "Certina" only in 1939. The name comes from the Latin word "certus", which means "sure". To this day, the manufacturer still holds firmly to what its name stands for - Certina watches have an excellent reputation for reliability.
The brand doesn’t stand still. On the contrary, it cares about innovation and modernity. The company has developed and patented several original solutions, gaining international recognition. The first of the brand’s innovations is the DS Concept for double security of the movement. The company also developed a Nivachron balance spring (an antimagnetic spring that ensures accurate timekeeping) and a precise Powermatic 80 automatic calibre with a power reserve of up to 80 hours. All Certina quartz watches are COSC-certified chronometers. The Precidrive movement, however, represents a new generation of quartz timepieces whose precision is comparable with that of chronometers.
