The mechanism in a watch is its heart, the driving force and at the same time the determinant of its position among other watches on the market. Its quality is determined primarily by the precision of its work, i.e. the lowest possible lapses of gait per day.
The watch industry is led by Swiss mechanisms, an example of which is the Ronda watch mechanism, or Japanese ones - especially the popular Miyota watch mechanism. These are quartz watch mechanisms, which are currently the most popular solutions for propulsion - this battery-powered watch mechanism does not require user intervention, but only periodic visits to the watchmaker to replace the power source, which has another advantage - regular maintenance to avoid wear and tear of watch parts.
Automatic watch mechanisms have been around for more than a century and are still considered one of the best watch drive systems. Their principle of operation is very simple - a pendulum placed inside rotates every time the watch is moved, which, thanks to installed ballasts, allows tightening of the spring - the same as in manual-winding watches. This, in turn, allows the watch to maintain a gait reserve of up to 40 hours, as noted in some models, equipped with a gait reserve indicator.
Solar mechanisms in watches are one of the most interesting methods of power supply. Thanks to solar energy, which is drawn from solar panels placed under the dial, the watch is constantly powered, while the excess energy is generated in a quartz battery placed in the watch. Particularly noteworthy is the Citizen brand with its proprietary Eco-Drive technology, allowing it to draw energy from any light source, which can power the watch for up to six months after a full charge.
