The quartz revolution became a turning point for Swiss watchmaking. The advent of quartz watches in the 1970s forced some changes and decisions. At that time, the Ronda company underwent a real revolution. This is a prime example of how a manufacturer of automatic movements became a leader among companies specialising in quartz movements.

Ronda - the work of a visionary and inventor

Ronda was founded in 1946 by the successful and ambitious William Mosset, who took the bold step of starting his own business. Initially, he was involved in the production of individual watch parts. Ultimately, his dream was to implement the production of his own in-house movements. Hard work, consistency and determination bore fruit. The first Ronda movements were produced in 1961.

Ronda movement - bold steps in a time of crisis

The aforementioned quartz revolution, also known as the quartz crisis, led to a significant decline of the Swiss watchmaking industry. The growing popularity of quartz movements caused a decrease in the number of mechanical watches. Faced with disaster, Ronda implemented a rescue plan. A decision was taken to refocus the business. Ronda began producing quartz movements. The first models developed in 1974, however, did not to inspire enthusiasm among customers and suppliers alike. Thanks to perseverance and passion, Ronda quartz movements have become the most modern and desirable calibres in the world.

Ronda - back to its roots with the R150 Mecano calibre

As befits a Swiss company, Ronda started by producing automatic and mechanical movements. It then specialised in the manufacture of quartz mechanisms. The brand is now attempting to return to its roots. And it is quite successfully at that! The Ronda company presented the R150 Mecano calibre to the world in 2016. This mechanism was meant to compete with highly regarded movements such as the ETA2824 or the Selita SW 200. What sets it apart from the competition? Good value for money. The basic model wasn't lavishly decorated, but it was the perfect basis for the designers. As for the specifications of the Ronda R150 movement, it bears 25 jewels and has a 40-hour power reserve. It beats at a rate of 28,800 oscillations per hour and is equipped with a date display. This automatic calibre definietely marked the beginning of a new era!

Ronda - a reliable movement at your fingertips

Ronda is a Swiss company with a global reach. Its mechanisms can be found in a wide range of watches. The Ronda movements are used by well-known and respected Swiss brands, including Adriatica and Glycine, as well as the world-renowned German manufacturer Zeppelin. So, if you value Swiss quality, choose watches powered by Ronda quartz movements!
