Suunto Race, along with the newly released Suunto Wing headphones, represents the latest offerings from the Finnish manufacturer. I had the pleasure of getting a sneak peek at this cutting-edge sports watch just days before it hit the shelves. Now, let me delve into more details and share my initial impressions with you.
Each Suunto watch series is created with specific needs and people in mind, and the Suunto Race collection is no exception. According to the manufacturer, this series is designed for athletes across various disciplines, but it will mainly appeal to enthusiasts of racing, driven by the pursuit of surpassing both others' records and their own. Suunto Race is a watch for those who want to get the most out of life.
To enhance the usability of the watch, the Race model comes equipped with an AMOLED screen, delivering an exceptionally clear and vibrant display with excellent readability under various conditions, including bright sunlight. The watch can be operated by touch as well as with the buttons and digital crown located on the side of the case. Yes, you heard it right — the Race line introduces a digital crown, a practical feature for seamless navigation through the menu and zooming in or out of map views during training sessions. Among the noteworthy additions are the HRV (heart rate variability) measurement and daily widgets, providing quick and convenient access to essential watch functions. The manufacturer has thoughtfully incorporated a multi-alarm and the ability to find a lost phone.
Suunto Race arrives in a distinct premium box, different from the previous series. At first glance, it's evident that you're about to experience something exceptional. One compartment contains the watch along with a concise manual, safety guidelines and a set of stickers. Another compartment holds the charging cable.
True to Suunto's reputation, the watch exudes a sense of meticulous craftsmanship and refinement in every aspect. Despite its big size, the case looks good even on a woman's wrist. The perforated strap lives up to expectations — its evenly-spaced holes allow for precise adjustments. The AMOLED screen really does make a difference. I had the chance to put it to the test during a run on a sunny day, and I must say, the data visibility under those bright light conditions was absolutely flawless. The slightly refreshed design looks very stylish and the digital crown is indeed a game changer.
The battery of Suunto Race operates seamlessly. It appears that the operating time is in line with that stated by the manufacturer. Based on the few workouts that I have done so far, I can say that the precision of the measurements, the multitude of indicators and the analysis of the data are, as usual, top-notch. Precise data on recovery time and training load allows you to customise your workouts according to your capabilities, optimizing their impact. The great accuracy of the GPS while running is also something that can make a real difference in your training. I can vouch for it.
I still need some more time for a thorough and comprehensive analysis of its features. Stay tuned for an upcoming update to this post, where I'll share a more detailed review.
