Suunto is a Finnish company that designs and manufactures high-quality smartwatches. Suunto smartwatches are perfect for both professional athletes who want to improve their performance and set new records as well as amateurs who want to start practising sport on a regular basis. Suunto has released many smartwatches on the market, e.g. Suunto 7 and Suunto 9 Baro. Which one is better? Today we’ll check this out!

Suunto 7 - smartwatch for sporty life

Suunto 7 smartwatches are great for sport enthusiasts. They are available in many different colours, so you can choose the model that will suit your character and style. Why has Suunto 7 gained such great popularity?

Suunto 7 is very impressive in its size - its case width is 50mm and is made of glass fibre reinforced polyamide. Its AMOLED touch screen is protected by Gorilla® Glass, a material which is highly resistant to scratching. Moreover, the look of the watch can be customised with interchangeable silicone straps. Suunto 7 features easy-to-change quick release straps thanks to which you can change the strap with your finger within seconds.

The smartwatch is powered with Wear OS by Google, which means most apps can be downloaded on it. Google Fit, Google Pay, Google Assistant and Google Play are features that will make your everyday life easier. Google Pay is a safe, simple, and helpful way to pay contactlessly - you no longer have to remember about your wallet. Google Assistant will help you search information online and with Google Play you can enjoy thousands of apps for free.

Suunto 7

Suunto 7 was primarily designed for sport. It offers over 70 sports modes to track all your activities and built-in heatmaps for 15 activities that show you the most popular routes. With free offline outdoor maps you’ll always find your way, even when you leave your phone at home or don’t have network connectivity. With GPS you’ll track your activity route, measure your pace and distance as well as the total ascent of the route. The watch also comes with a wrist heart rate sensor that gives you valuable insights into how your body is performing during a workout. The built-in logbook allows you to view your exercise summaries and get detailed insights on your training progress.

Suunto 7 comes with the Suunto app which can be downloaded on your phone to track your health and see progress on your activity goals.

Suunto 7 is shock, water (5 ATM) and dirtproof, so you can wear the smartwatch in rain, mud and snow without any worries. It’s a perfect watch for everyday use.

Suunto 9 - created for sports nuts

Suunto 9 and Suunto 9 Baro come with many new different features. They were created for sport enthusiasts who want to measure their progress in any physical activity, whether it's indoors or outdoors.

Suunto 9 Baro comes in titanium and steel versions. Titanium is hypoallergenic and very resistant to all kinds of damages. The touch screen of Suunto 9 Baro is protected by a sapphire crystal which is highly resistant to scratching or shattering. The case width is around 50 mm (titanium watches are slightly bigger). You can customise your sports watch by choosing a strap (silicone, textile or leather). The type of strap, of course, depends only on your personal taste and needs.

Suunto 9 is designed purely for sport, which is great for those who want to improve their athletic performance. The watch doesn't come with GoogleFit and doesn’t allow you to make contactless payments. It’s been done on purpose - Suunto 9 was created to meet the demands of professional athletes and sports nuts. No doubt, the smartwatch meets the highest standards of a sports watch.

Suunto 9

Suunto 9 is built to last. It comes with four battery modes, i.e. Performance, Endurance, Ultra and Tour. The intelligent battery life management system allows you to enjoy Suunto 9 significantly longer than other sports smartwatches. The smartwatch has as many as 80 sports modes. This gives you plenty of possibilities, e.g. the logbook, an activity tracker and a sleep tracker.

You can customise the main display and sports modes of your Suunto 9. The smartwatch has a triathlon mode (unlike Suunto 7) and that’s why it’s recommended especially for triathletes who want to improve their performance in running, cycling and swimming. Suunto 7 has a water resistance of 50m while Suunto 9 has a water resistance of 100m. This feature is especially important for swimmers and triathletes.

Suunto FusedTrack™ is a feature that combines GPS and motion sensor data to improve track and distance accuracy.

Suunto 9 Baro has (unlike other Suunto 9 models) a barometer that measures altitude and altitude changes (ascent/descent). It’s a veritable treat for sports lovers!

To sum up, Suunto 9 (including Suunto 9 Baro) is designed for athletes who demand the best from their sports watch. Suunto 9 smartwatches are very resistant to unfavourable environmental conditions and that’s why they are perfect for extreme sports like climbing. Once your smartwatch is paired with the Suunto app, you can track your performance from your phone.

Suunto 7 or Suunto 9 - which smartwatch is better?

Both smartwatches are great. And this isn’t surprising since both models were designed and manufactured by Suunto. Don’t you know which smartwatch to choose? Ask yourself the following question: what functions do I need in my smartwatch? If you’re interested only in sports features, go for Suunto 9 or Suunto 9 Baro.

If you need a multifunctional smartwatch, however, choose Suunto 7. Not only will it track your training accurately, but also it will make your everyday life easier. Personally, we are huge fans of Suunto 9 as it features increased battery life, intelligent battery modes, a wider choice of strap types, many customisation possibilities and a triathlon mode. How about you? Which smartwatch is better for you? No matter which watch you choose, we are sure you’ll be satisfied with your new Suunto companion.
