In terms of the design, the main strength of the Suunto 5 Peak is an extremely low weight and high durability. Suunto 9 Peak, however, is characterised by a thin case and robust design. What do the numbers say? Suunto 5 Peak smartwatches weigh only 39 g, while Suunto 9 Peak smartwatches weigh 62 g. The dimensions of both cases are the same, but there is a difference in the thickness of the case - the case of Suunto 5 Peak measures 12.9 mm, while the case of Suunto 9 Peak is 10.6 mm.

What about the materials? In both watches, the bezel is made of stainless steel. The glass material differs - Suunto 5 Peak has a mineral crystal, whereas Suunto 9 Peak comes with a sapphire one. The case of the Suunto 5 Peak is made of glass fibre reinforced polyamide, while Suunto 9 Peak is made of stainless steel or titanium. Made of silicone, the straps of both smartwatches are 22 mm wide. The display resolution of Suunto 5 Peak is 218 x 218 px. The Suunto 9 Peak, on the other hand, has a display resolution of 240x240 px. Also, there is little difference in battery life. In time mode, the battery can last up to 10 (Suunto 5 Peak) or 14 days (Suunto 9 Peak). In training mode with GPS, however, the battery gives 20, 40 or 100 hours of operation (Suunto 5 Peak) and 25, 50, 120 or 170 hours of operation (Suunto 9 Peak). A major difference is also the smartwatch control. Suunto 5 Peak smartwatches are controlled by convenient buttons, whereas Suunto 9 Peak smartwatches are controlled by the touch screen.

The Suunto 9 Peak features additional weather functions: a storm alarm, temperature and sea level barometric pressure readings, as well as a digital compass with tilt compensation and declination correction. A new function of the Suunto 5 Peak (not available in the Suunto 9 Peak) is the adaptive training guidance, which is adjusted in real time based on exercise intensity and duration. Also, the Suunto 5 Peak automatically generates a 7-day training plan. Finally, the Suunto 9 Peak has a pulse oximeter unlike the Suunto 5 Peak.
