There are many things that we have to look for when buying a watch. Usually, we expect it to look good, be precise, and durable. However, without carefulness and proper care, every watch will be worn out sooner or later, even those most expensive ones. The most vulnerable parts are definitely straps and bracelets. So what should we do to keep them in a good shape?

Leather watch strap - comfort and elegance

Without a doubt, leather straps are adding more elegance and uniqueness to a watch. They make it more comfortable and simply look good with numerous outfits. Unfortunately, all kinds of leather are very prone to damaging and usually they don’t last for many years. Is there anything we can do about it? Of course! You just need to follow our tips:

Impregnation of a watch strap

Before you will start wearing your watch, use an impregnation product. It will make a strap more elastic and less vulnerable.

Ventilation

It is advised to loosen your strap during the summer, when it is more prone to moisture absorption. If you don’t let your skin breathe, the sweat will soon appear on your wrist and soak in the leather, making it raddled and smelly. When that happens, you need to wipe the sweat off with dry and soft piece of cloth.

Remember about regular clean-up

Leather watch straps, just like bags and shoes, get dirty and they need regular cleansing. In order to keep them looking fresh, you need to use some gentle products designated for genuine leather, like soap or shampoo.

What about straightening a strap?

Don’t try to straighten your watch strap by force. With time, it will adjust to the shape of your wrist - if you will try to change its shape every day, the leather will simply crinkle. Remember about keeping the watch in adequate place in order to save it from creasing, discoloration, or different types of damage.

Durability and shine of a steel bracelet

Bracelet is much more durable than leather strap. Stainless steel, titanium, ceramic, silver, or gold are not that vulnerable and damageable. Does it mean we don’t need to care about them? Absolutely not!

Protection of your bracelet

Remember that bracelet is not scratch proof. You can easily scuff it while wearing metal bracelets, rubbing your wrist against desk, or doing some chores. Try to be gentle with your bracelet.

How to clean your steel bracelet?

It’s important to take a good care of your watch and bracelet, despite high endurance. Steel bracelets need to be washed with water. If that doesn’t help, we can try to clean them with soft toothbrush and water with soap. Then, rinse it with water and dry it with soft cloth. If the watch is not water resistant, be careful not to wet the case (instead, use delicately moistened cloth and then dry it entirely.)

Appropriate storage of watches with bracelet

Pay attention to the place your watch is stored. Putting it away anywhere may cause many damages and scratches.

We don’t buy a watch for a short period of time. At least most of us. That is why we should take a good care of them. Due to our tips, you can make your strap or bracelet last longer. They are a crucial part of the watch - due to their durability, the case won’t slide and fall. So keep this endurance for as long as possible!
