Tissot and the secrets of the Swiss town of Le Locle

It all started 168 years ago in the small town of Le Locle nestled in the Swiss Jura Mountains. Charles Emile Tissot together with his father Charles Félicien Tissot founded a pocket watch factory and thus laid the foundation for the watch manufacturer Tissot. Within a short time, Tissot appeared in showrooms around the world. This is evidenced by the fact that Tissot was the main supplier of pocket watches to the Russian Imperial Guard until 1917.

The beginning of the 20th century was a time that allowed the Tissot brand to spread its wings and become one of the largest manufacturers of wristwatches. Tissot wristwatches successfully served pilots during World War I. No doubt, it was easier to read the time on the wrist than to take out a pocket watch.

Luxury and the tradition of Swiss watchmaking are an integral part of the company's DNA. These things, as well as a knack for setting new directions in watchmaking, makes Tissot a pioneer of modern solutions and improvements. These efforts culminated in the 1930s with the launch of the first anti-magnetic wristwatch. In 1951, however, Tissot introduced the world's first wristwatch with 24 time zones.

The second half of the 20th century was a time of change for the entire watch industry. The quartz crisis, caused by the invention of the quartz watch, contributed to the closure of many old factories. The Tissot brand, however, didn't give up and joined the Swatch Group in 1983 to receive its due support. Thanks to this, the manufacturer is still present on the market today, pleasing many people with new watches and series.
