The Tissot brand has unveiled the new PR516 collection. The watches are inspired by a model from the 1970s and take their sporty character from motor racing. As usual with this manufacturer, the watches present a high standard of Swiss Made workmanship. The line features three quartz models and one mechanical model.

Tissot PR516 - a reinterpretation of a classic model

The new version of the Tissot PR516 series is a reinterpretation of the cherished 1970 model and features a modernised vintage-style design. The Tissot PR516 Mechanical Chronograph T149.459.21.051.00 features a Valjoux A05 Nivachron mechanical chronograph, while the other three models, which include the T149.417.11.041.00, T149.417.11.051.00 and T149.417.22.051.00, are quartz variants. The watches are designed to reflect the spirit of classic motoring and sporty driving.

It will be recalled that the letters PR from the collection's name refer to the English "Particularly Robust" and sometimes also to "Precision and Resistance". The number 516, on the other hand, indicates that this was the sixteenth model in the fifth (water-resistant) series. According to the manufacturer's announcement, the watch was therefore intended to serve: "On the track, in the air, in the water". The robustness of the Tissot watch is ensured by a new 'floating' movement and flexible joints made of synthetic materials that act as shock absorbers.

The Tissot PR516 is a dynamic and versatile design that combines robustness and style. Classic functionality in timekeeping is provided by three chronograph sub-dials. The tachymeter and pulse meter on the bezel, meanwhile, allow speed and heart rate to be measured during sporting activities. Both the bezel, indexes and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for improved visibility in the dark. The dial is protected from damage by a convex sapphire glass with anti-reflector for an exclusive look.

The tapered stainless steel envelope is combined with a rounded link bracelet that adds sophistication and subtlety to the model. The quick-change system means that the bracelet can be easily swapped for an additional strap, making the watch suitable for both formal attire and more casual styles. Tissot 's innovation is highlighted by the Swiss mechanical chronograph used in the Tissot PR516 Mechanical Chronograph T149.459.21.051.00, which was designed specifically for this watch. It pays homage to the historic collection it is inspired by and to the brand's superior craftsmanship.

This reliable movement boasts a 62-hour power reserve. Its workings and the complexity and meticulousness of its construction can be admired through the glazed lid. The three other models base their operation on the Swiss ETA G10 Powerdrive quartz movement with EOL energy depletion indicator. In this series of Tissot watches, the caseback is decorated with an engraving depicting a laurel wreath and a sports car steering wheel with the number 516 in the middle, symbolising the racing heritage associated with this collection.
