The Multi-Year Calendar series stands out not only for its popularity, but also for its devoted following. Let's have a look at the brief history of the Orient brand and its Multi-Year Calendar watches!

A brief history of the Orient brand

The Orient brand was founded in 1950, but its history traces its roots back to a much earlier period, specifically 1901. It was during this time that Shogoro Yoshida decided to import and sell pocket watches. With experience, the aspirations of this Japanese entrepreneur grew. He expanded his business and, in 1912, began producing gold cases for pocket models. The following years brought further changes. With the new name Toyo Tokei Manufacturing came a new product: table clocks.

The journey towards wristwatch production was a gradual one. It wasn't until 1934 that wristwatches made their debut in the brand's collection. The growth and expansion of the Orient company eventually led to the establishment of its factory just two years later. However, the outbreak of the war brought about a crisis, severely impacting the Japanese economy. In the aftermath of the war, Yoshida's company, now operating under the name Tama Keiki Company, experienced a remarkable resurgence just one year after the end of the war, akin to a phoenix rising from the ashes. It was in 1951 that the company underwent its final name change, giving birth to the brand we know today as Orient.

The legendary Multi Year Calendar series

The creators of the Multi-Year Calendar collection may have envisioned a positive reception from the industry and customers, but it's unlikely they expected its ascent to legendary status. They come with a distinctive dial with a multi-year calendar valid for up to 23 years and are powered by the in-house automatic Epson calibre F6D22. Orient Multi-Year Calendar watches boast a 40-hour power reserve with 22 jewels and a water resistance of 5 ATM. What is so special about it? It's the unmistakable dial that instantly identifies it as an Orient watch. Of course, other manufacturers have attempted to create similar watches, but without much success.

Iconic Orient Bambino and Mako watches

Speaking of iconic Orient collections, it’s important to highlight two more: Bambino and Mako. The first one, characterised by its vintage style, perfectly fits in with the current trends. The Orient Bambino series is available in many colour variants. Watches are available with either a date display and an open heart, through which you can observe the intricate movement. The latest additions to the Bambino series are distinguished by, among others, a convex glass and radiant cut.

Another noteworthy collection is the Orient Mako. If you seek a high-quality dive watch at an affordable price, then the Mako is an ideal choice. With a water resistance of 20 ATM, it embodies the essential features expected from a diving watch. The manufacturers make sure that the appearance of the watch undergoes minor or slightly major adjustments, in line with current trends. When you buy an Orient watch, you can be sure of two things: impeccable craftsmanship of the highest quality and a reliable in-house movement.

Timeless Orient watches for him and her

Orient has a wide range of men's watches, both quartz and automatic. Among them, the Multi-Year Calendar collection shines as a true gem. Although the dial seems unreadable, a bit chaotic, it is the one that has stolen the hearts of people all over the world. The Orient brand doesn’t forget about the ladies. You can check out its offer of stunning women's watches with a leather strap and a steel bracelet. The watches are extremely feminine thanks to the embellishments. Some indices and bezels are adorned with sparkling crystals. One collection that particularly caught our attention is The Sun & Moon, with its enchanting moon phase indicator. Do you have an Orient watch in your collection?
