The Fossil brand was founded in the 1980s. Back then, a watch had only one task, which was to measure the passing time. The creators of the brand focused on being different, which turned out to be their great success. They decided to treat watches as a fashion accessory, not just a timepiece. In order to differentiate their offerings, Tom Kartsotis hired designer Lynne Stafford, who was inspired by advertisements placed in magazines in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
