I’ve long dreamed of a watch that would be at least an “open heart” model, and ideally a “skeleton” model. I settled on the Carl von Zeyten Neustadt Skeleton Automatic.
APPEARANCE
De gustibus non est disputandum (there’s no accounting for taste), but this watch is simply beautiful :-) The guilloché pattern on the dial—a design consisting of many repeating lines—deserves special praise. This is clearly visible in the attached photo. The dial’s elegance is enhanced by a subdued tri-color palette of navy blue, silver, and gold. It is the gold circles at the six o’clock position that are the main stars, as they move rhythmically to mark the time and make you want to gaze at them just like goldfish in an aquarium :-) The details deserve special recognition; they are perfectly refined and include, for example, the brand’s initials engraved on the left side of the case and on the clasp of the leather strap. This watch is perfect for everyday wear, and thanks to its original design, it works perfectly as a (slightly extravagant) accessory to a formal outfit.
ERGONOMICS
Although the case thickness is above average (16 mm), the watch is very comfortable to wear. It is quite heavy (the case width is 46 mm), but this is an advantage when you feel that you have a solid watch on your wrist. The sapphire crystal is subtly domed, which perfectly showcases the dial of this unique timepiece. A major advantage is the strap, which features a butterfly clasp that prevents the watch from being lost (should the clasp accidentally come undone).
FUNCTIONALITY
1. The double skeleton design is truly impressive, as aside from the glass-covered case back, nearly the entire dial is open, revealing the entire interior of the timepiece (not just a small round window, as in most “open heart” watches). The ability to view the movement from both the front and back adds class, prestige, and undeniable charm to this watch.
2. The automatic movement is powered by the natural movements of the wrist, which offers the opportunity to appreciate the artistry of watchmaking (as Carl von Zeyten products are assembled and tested by hand) and eliminates the need to replace the battery.
3. The day/night indicator adds a retro character and a touch of edge, making this timepiece stand out on the market.
4. Fluorescent hands and hour markers ensure the watch is not only beautiful in its classic design but also functional at night.
5. Two time zones will be useful for frequent travelers, so they don’t have to reset the hands to the correct time every time.
QUALITY vs. PRICE
An automatic skeleton watch in such an original design is an excellent choice at a very reasonable price. The store’s customer service is perfect, and delivery was lightning-fast. In summary, the Carl von Zeyten Neustadt Skeleton Automatic model helped make my “watch” dream come true :-)
