Orient Blue Ray II is for me a watch, on many levels, a breakthrough. This is my first "diver", the first Japanese watch and the first Orient timepiece. Suffice it to say that despite a few more expensive rivals in the collection, it immediately became my favorite everyday watch. There is something, in fact, a lot of "that something" that makes it impossible to take your eyes off it. The way the light plays on its dial and the comfort of wearing it changed my attitude towards divers. Before, I just skipped them. This is not the end - he, alone, wiped the neck of a few stereotypes and woke me up from the snobbish lethargy in which I unhappily lasted for years. And what a wake-up call it was! It was thanks to him that I bought another watch of this brand in the www.zegarownia.pl store and I am already thinking about the third one. The value for money only pales in comparison with the fact that the Orient belongs to a rare, especially in this price class, type of watches powered by an "in-house" mechanism. In the era of a flood of timepieces that differ only in appearance, the exterior of which is concealed by the same, common, Chinese-made mechanism, Orient, powered by its own Japanese mechanism, made me lose interest in the designs of many well-known manufacturers. It is with them that the plague is bland, other people's mechanisms, for which you pay a fortune anyway. The Japanese, faithful to tradition, simply do it better and are honest at the same time - the buyer knows exactly what they are buying. My rating is full of 5 stars, although it should be obvious that I corrected the affordable purchase price. In this price range, Blue Ray II is second to none. Its functionality and quality of workmanship outclass its direct rival - the archaic Seiko SKX007, remaining, in fact, without competition. No wonder that outside Poland, the Orient brand is recognized by enthusiasts of mechanical watches, among others, thanks to the improved Ray II. Bearing in mind the price, which in itself is a big plus, this watch really has nothing to be ashamed of with the much more expensive "Helvet". What is no less important, despite the inevitable similarities to the classics of the genre (vide Submariner and Seamaster), it has its own character and does not pretend to be much more expensive competitors. I highly recommend it, especially to people who want to buy their first automatic watch, and at the same time do not want to ruin their home budget. It is a very universal design that will work well every day and will not be out of place with moderately formal stylizations. Advantages: powered by a Japanese-made automatic "in-house" mechanism; a beautiful blue dial with many faces (the so-called sunbeam dial); red ending of the seconds hand contrasting with the dial; display of the day of the week in two languages (English and Spanish) and the day of the month; relatively precise mechanism with the possibility of manual winding; screwed crown marked with the manufacturer's logo; water resistance, the limits of which most buyers will never test (200 m); stop second; precise bezel with 120 clicks; applied, not printed, hour markers; great luminescence; precise, effective finish of the dial elements (markers and the "day-date" window); compact design - although this is not its territory and application, Ray II easily fits under the cuff of a shirt; solid, nice bracelet with three-stage micro-adjustment; overall high quality of workmanship and fit (the watch seems much more expensive). Disadvantages: The small crown is not comfortable to handle and can be difficult to tighten. Features that are not so much disadvantages, but are due to the affordable price, which are worth mentioning: mineral glass and empty end links of the factory bracelet. Both things can be improved on your own, when someone feels the need to do so. Oh, the photos do not reflect the charm of this watch and if you like it already in the photos or videos, it can only be better live;)
