Let’s start from the beginning. I was a little surprised by the packaging, which I thought was designed for the Pro Diver series of divers’ watches. Given the rubber coating, the sponge-like cushion somehow clashes with a mechanical watch on a leather strap. However, it’s just the packaging—a secondary detail. What matters most is inside. The watch is beautiful. The white dial with painted Roman numerals would be even more elegant if they were applied as stickers, but that’s my only minor criticism of this timepiece.
This model is also available with a "gold" movement and case, though I haven’t seen it in Polish stores (model 31154).
The watch case measures 42 mm without the crown. The window through which the movement and the oscillating balance wheel are visible has a diameter of 23 mm. Although the watch has no additional functions (such as a date display), there is a lot going on on the dial. From the oscillating balance wheel, positioned between the nine and ten o’clock markers, to the smooth-running second hand.....
This is my first mechanical watch, and only now have I understood the fascination with the sweeping second hand.
Yes, quartz watches have their advantages in the form of high accuracy and maintenance-free operation. Just replace the battery and you’re set for 3–4 years. Whether the watch is worn or sitting in a box, the movement works the same. In the case of this model, if left unwound, the spring will stop.
The case back of this watch is also transparent. Through it, you can see the simple Hong Tai Cal. STBL-005B (S.S.) movement with 17 jewels and manual winding. Admittedly, it is not a masterpiece of watchmaking, but it is still pleasing to the eye and, so far, works flawlessly. The manufacturer has rated the watch’s water resistance at only 30 meters. This means it’s resistant to splashes and rain, but swimming with the watch is out of the question.
The strap of this watch is made of black genuine leather, 22 mm wide. Unfortunately, it has a traditional clasp, which will shorten its lifespan, but I will definitely replace it with a butterfly clasp. In my opinion, they’re more comfortable, durable, and elegant. To sum up: it’s a beautiful watch for a reasonable price. If you, like me, were hesitant about mechanical watches, this is a good, affordable model to try. I recommend both the store and the watch.
