Fine workmanship of U-BOAT watches in tribute to Italy and New York
The craftsmanship of Italian U-BOAT watchmaking is represented not only through the interior but, above all, through the magnificent exterior. The new, extremely limited U-BOAT Firenze and Roma collections perfectly portray an artistic expression. The unique design is a tribute to Italy. The launch of U-BOAT New York watches designed by Italo Fontana has also been recently announced. Their production was entrusted to Tuscan goldsmiths. Cases with images of monuments made of 925 silver and bronze
Two metals, sterling silver and bronze, were used by Italian goldsmiths to create these exceptional works of art. The cases depict bas-reliefs celebrating the art of Italy. Watches with bronze cases are dedicated to Florence. Along the entire length of the right side of the case one notices the Florentine Ponte Vecchio bridge and on the opposite side – the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. The caseback is decorated with a laser-etched image of the statue of David by Michelangelo. The silver version captures the Roman artistic achievement. The right side of the case is adorned with a carved Colosseum and the left side features St Peter's Basilica. The caseback depicts the image of the Capitoline wolf.
The design of the U-BOAT Firenze and Roma collections captures the vibe of old Italy. The dials and hand-carved bezels are specially designed to look old. The model features a beige and white luminescent compound. The watches have a crown at 9 o'clock and the Roman numeral markings for 4,8 and 12 hour indicators, which is typical of U-BOAT timepieces. It is hard not to be impressed by the detailed work and the superb representation of the Tuscan architectural heritage. The luxury of the collection is highlighted by a strap made of carefully-selected alligator leather.
What is interesting is that the brand has announced another project, referring not so much to Italy, but to... New York! Similarly, the series will include two versions, one in silver and the other in bronze. The 45-mm-diameter cases depict the famous Brooklyn Bridge, the skyline and the Empire State Building. The Statue of Liberty is laser engraved on the caseback. The distinctive crown on the left is set with a huge brilliant-cut black diamond with a carat weight of between 1.30 and 2.00 in both versions.
Highly limited edition justifies the price
U-BOAT Firenze and Roma series are limited to 88 pieces each. All timepieces are entirely made by hand, ensuring that no watch is the same. The differences of the goldsmiths' work are visible in the details. Due to their uniqueness, these watches are available exclusively in U-BOAT boutiques in Rome and Florence and on the official website. Their price is around €5,500.
