It has been almost 50 years since the global quartz crisis shook the entire watch industry. It was an important turning point and a period of significant change for the entire market. The first quartz movements and mass-produced watches appeared on the market, displacing traditional mechanical movements. However, this long-term phenomenon was also a driving force for watch companies to come up with their own solutions and advanced technologies. In fact, the development of the first indestructible G-SHOCK watches with anti-shock systems took place under such circumstances.

G-SHOCK – shock-resistant revolution in the watch industry

It all started 40 years ago when G-SHOCK sparked a revolution in the world of watchmaking. In 1981, engineer Kikuo Ibe and his project team "TOUGH" began the process of creating the first shock-resistant watch. There was only one goal – to design a model that would follow the “Triple 10” concept, meaning it would have a 10-year battery life, 10-bar water resistance, and 10-metre dropping shock resistance.

After 2 years of hard work, conducting many demanding endurance tests and designing over 200 prototypes, the Japanese team of specialists achieved the desired success. April 1983 saw the launch of the first shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch from the DW-5000C-1A series. The G-SHOCK brand of Japanese timepieces, which is now celebrating its 40th anniversary, quickly gained recognition not only among watch experts but also among a diverse group of customers. This model also marked the start of an impressive watchmaking history for Casio G-SHOCK.

40 years of Japanese watches – G-SHOCK Limited Edition watches

It's hard to believe that a world-famous true legend is celebrating its round anniversary this year. And there is something to celebrate, because it is exactly 40 years since the launch of the first G-SHOCK watch in 1983. The Japanese brand has undergone quite a few changes and entered a new era of development. However, it continues to appeal to successive generations of wearers and its bestsellers have remained at the top of the sales lists of the most popular and most purchased watches for years.

G-SHOCK The Origin Eric Haze Full Metal Limited Edition – watch for the 40th anniversary of the brand

The latest edition of 40th Anniversary G-Shock watches includes Casio G-SHOCK the Origin Eric Haze Full Metal Limited Edition GMW-B5000EH-1ER. The model was created in collaboration with New York-based graffiti artist Eric Haze. The creative design features a distinctive case shape and a steel bracelet with an interesting and laser-applied print designed by Haze. The celebration of the G-SHOCK's 40th anniversary wouldn’t be complete without the logo specially designed to mark the occasion. The logo was created, of course, by none other than Eric Haze. The GMW-B5000EH-1ER watch features an engraving on the caseback. Plus, when the backlight is activated, Eric Haze’s graffiti tag also appears on the display. This feature is available in all limited edition watches commemorating the brand's 40th anniversary.

G-SHOCK Original Adventurer’s Stone GEM Limited Edition

As part of the limited edition watches celebrating the G-SHOCK's 40th anniversary, the Casio G-SHOCK Original 40th Anniversary Adventurer's Stone GEM Limited Edition collection with six timepieces has also been released. Each of the models has a different distinctive design and colour. All of them, however, are inspired by precious stones and minerals which in ancient times were used by people to navigate on sea and land. These include: calcite (GM-S5640GEM-7ER, GM-S2140GEM-9AER, GM-114GEM-1A9ER and GM-S114GEM-1A2ER), cordierite (GM-2140GEM-2AER) and sunstone (GM-5640GEM-1).

The entire G-SHOCK Original 40th Anniversary Adventurer's Stone GEM series uses durable and high-quality materials including stainless steel and resin. On top of this, all six limited edition watches feature the unique textures of cases and bezels thanks to different surface finishing processes, e.g. ion plating. The straps, on the other hand, are made of coloured or translucent resin. Their interesting texture has been made with the Garal moulding technique that mixes two different colours of resin. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Casio G-SHOCK watches, this limited series could not miss the phrase "SINCE 1983" on the dial, the symbolic 4 stars on the band loop and, of course, Eric Haze’s design of the logo engraved on the lugs.

G-SHOCK Exclusive and Mudmaster Flare Red Limited Edition watches

The fiery design was inspired by the power, force and intensity of the colours of a solar flare. This motif is visible on the dials (the visual effect is highlighted by the phosphorescent elements present on the dials and rings).
